Nick Cassino joined AFCA’s board of directors in May 2005
As the Managing Director for CB Richard Ellis in Tacoma, Washington Nick oversees a full service commercial real estate company, which is part of one of the largest commercial real estate services companies in the world.
Nick, together with his wife Val, look forward to shifting their life focus towards full-time humanitarian work. They have been active in international humanitarian work over the years and have formed their own non-profit foundation called “Picture the World” . One goal is to meld this foundation, or at least the concept of it, into their life focus as they redirect their time and resource commitments away from their current careers towards a “second career” . . . one that will be spiritually rewarding and life- enriching while serving the needs of those in the world who have the least.
Nick earned a BA degree in Political Science from Western Washington University and a Masters in Economics from Fordham University.
Robert Maynard, Vice President
In January 2010 Robert (Bob) was elected Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the American Foundation for Children with AIDS after a year of serving as Secretary/Treasurer and 3 years as Board President.
Bob participates in several other Humanitarian organizations. He is the Founder and Director of the World Housing Foundation, a Washington, D.C. based humanitarian organization created for the purpose of providing affordable housing to those in need on a global basis. He also sits on the Board of The Organ Donation & Transplant Association of America, a North Palm Beach, Florida, based organization that is committed to reaching out to millions of Americans and encouraging organ donation as a means of saving the lives of others.
Bob is the President/CEO of Concept Venture Companies, Inc., and Performance Management Systems, LLC, both Lawrence, Kansas based development and management companies that provide services, solutions, and systems as well as management, advisory, market research and G & A functions to medical/dental and foodservice hospitality vertical markets/related businesses. He is knowledgeable in creating operational structures, taking them from conception, through growth and into on-going procedures.
A seasoned traveler, Bob is experienced in working with charitable foundations, consequently interlacing corporate business with humanitarian endeavors.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice and a Minor in Business from Southern Illinois University. A military veteran, he was a Counter intelligence Agent, Military Intelligence, in the United States Army and served a tour in Vietnam. Bob also currently sits on the Kansas 7th District Judicial Commission.
Bob and his wife, Teri, currently reside in Lawrence, Kansas.
Mary Engelking, Secretary/Treasurer
Mary Engleking is Secretary/Treasurer of the board for the American Foundation for Children with AIDS. Mary heads her own consulting group, Mary Engelking & Company, which provides management services and consulting to non-profit organizations in North America and Europe.
Mary has extensive experience and expertise in areas ranging from construction and affordable housing to training, organizational development, evaluation, fundraising and finance. Prior to establishing Mary Engelking & Company, Mary served as the Director of Programs for Europe and Central Asia for Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). Based in Budapest, she was responsible for programs in 16 countries. Prior, she spent three years as a volunteer with HFHI, doing work on community development projects in Kyrgyzstan, England, and Bulgaria. Mary also did a fellowship at the National Center for Nonprofit Boards in Washington, DC.
Mary spent 12 years in the Air Force in a variety of assignments in fields such as strategy, program and project management of aircraft acquisition, and logistics. She lived in several states in the U.S. as well as abroad in Germany, Belarus, and Russia.
Mary has a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Wright State University.
Michael Kracht, Director
Michael Kracht is a shareholder in the Law firm of Weber, Kracht and Chellew in Perkasie, PA. Michael works principally in the areas of Defense litigation, Municipal, and Land Development in eastern Pennsylvania. He has for years actively participated in and represented numerous charitable organization. He is a founding member and current Board Member of the Keystone Opportunity Center which provides, among other things, emergency shelter, transitional housing, food and clothing for the Bucks and Montgomery County’s less fortunate. He has traveled on mission projects and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador from 1981-1983 working with the Indigenous population teaching school and constructing several community projects.
Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, Michael grew up in Iowa, graduated with a degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State University and finished his formal education with a J.D. from Washburn Law School in Topeka, Kansas in 1979. He is admitted to practice not only in State Courts of Kansas and Pennsylvania, but also several Federal Courts, including the United States Supreme Court. After graduation, he served in the Kansas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. After returning from Peace Corps, he also worked several years for Legal Aid before entering private practice with his current firm.
Al Manji, Director
Al Manji joined the AFCA’s Board of Directors in December 2009.
Al is Managing Director of MOC Distributors of Canada, an automotive services company based in Markham, Ontario, Canada. MOC specializes in supplying business tools, retention services and vehicle maintenance programs that allow dealers to build stronger Fixed Operations.
Al spent the last seven years volunteering within the institutions of the Aga Khan Council framework. He held a local position for program Planning & Evaluation, as well as a national position on Youth & Sports Board where he also performed a P&E role pertaining to programmatic activity focused on Youth Development, Camps, Sports, Youth at Risk and Newly Settled Youth.
In 2007/08, Al had the privilege of serving as Director of Marketing for an international project that brought together over 1200 athletes from more than 20 countries to participate in a sporting tournament held in Nairobi Kenya. Aside from showcasing athletic talent, the project had an underlying theme of unity and brotherhood, cultural sharing, arts and social networking.
Al earned a BASc in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
